Deal of the day: Get a Samsung Focus from Walmart, also get $25

FILED IN gadgets No Comments

Today must be opposite day, as Walmart will give you money when you purchase a Windows-Phone-7-powered Samsung Focus.

By using some crazy overlapping mail-in-rebate magic, you can score yourself $25 when you purchase the phone using the promo code 25rafpcver1 at the checkout.

Let me show you the maths:

Start with the $199 purchase price.
Subtract the $100 Walmart gift card mailed out to you after purchase,
Subtract the $75 Let’s Talk Instant Discount (which ends today),
Subtract $25 for an additional Let’s Talk Instant Discount (also ends today),
All of this nets you a $0.01c phone… but this is where the tricky part comes in…

Finally, enter the $25 off coupon I showed you above, and BAM! You’ve got yourself an extra $25!

I can’t say for sure that this is money-making scheme will be honoured by Walmart, but if you’re in the market for a WinPho7 device, you could do worse than try it out.

You can purchase it here, but make sure that you let us know of your success/failure in the comments, below.

WalMart Offering $100 Gift Cards With Smartphone Purchases Through November 25th

FILED IN gadgets 1 Comment

Walmart is certainly stepping up their pre-Black Friday offerings in the wireless game with a $100 Walmart gift card now through November 25th. The best part, it qualifies for BOTH new customers as well as qualifying upgrades! So what phones qualify you ask? Adding a new line to a family plan will qualify and of course works online and in store. If you’ve been looking to grab another phone in the next week, this is quite the tempting offer. Love or hate Walmart, a $100 gift card isn’t a half bad deal.

Virgin Mobile to offer mobile hotspot at Wal-Mart

FILED IN gadgets No Comments

NewImage.jpg

iPod Touch and Wifi-only iPad users looking for mobile data connection, would you spend $20/month for 1GB data — without a contract?

Tomorrow, Wal-Mart is planning to unveil Virgin Mobile’s Broadband2Go at this price point, which matches the MiFi offer by Verizon Wireless — except Big Red’s price requires an iPad/MiFi bundle and a two-year contract. Virgin Mobile’s service — which runs on the Sprint network — doesn’t need any of that, though it does require its MiFi 2200 or Ovation MC760 USB dongle (the latter of which won’t work for any of our iDevices. Sorry — no USB drive). The MiFi, however, should work just fine for our i-using ways.

Of course, Virgin does offer an unlimited plan for $40/month and a $10/month plan for 100MB of data. But really, 100MB is pretty paltry, and $40 can be tough to swallow for some folks. $20 seems like a sweet spot, and the fact that it’s a no-contract deal seems pretty good to me.

Anyone have experience with Broadband2Go? Would you recommend it? Share your impressions below.

If you’re interested in snagging this deal, it will only be available only at brick-and-mortar Wal-Marts and at its online store.

Solid Deals On Solid Phones At Walmart: LG Optimus T For A Buck

FILED IN gadgets No Comments

Some heavy-duty savings on a couple solid phones over at Walmart: the LG Optimus T, which we handled a variant of and pronounced sweet, is going for under a buck, and the rugged Motorola Defy is only $50. Of course, you’ll need a new two-year contract and data plan to get those prices, but if you’re in the market, you could do a lot worse than either of these phones.

The Optimus T in particular, I think, would work for a “my first smartphone” type situation. It’s built really well, does everything you need it to, and it’s even got 2.2, something many more expensive phones are still working on. I haven’t handled a Defy, but I get a good feeling from it, unlike some of the other Motorola handsets I’ve seen recently.

HTC HD7 Available For Order From T-Mobile? Almost But Walmart Is Selling It For Cheap!

FILED IN gadgets 4 Comments

For those of you who haven’t made up their minds about the HD7 without testing the device, we have some great news, albeit with a caveat. The HD7 is officially listed on the myTmobile.com upgrade page but unfortunately you can’t actually purchase the device just yet. We expect you can do that sometime early next Monday morning but hey, it never hurts to try and sneak it in a few days early. I’ve tried to be an active voice for Windows Phone 7 as so many of you have seemingly written it off prior to actually trying a device which is a total mistake. Nobody is saying it’s better than the iPhone, or that it’s better than Android but if you were a fan on the Windows Mobile of old or just want to take a look at something new, you owe it to yourself to at least give yourself a few minutes with the HD7.

Of course if you are looking for the best deal on the HD7, Walmart is kicking down doors the past 24 hours with some serious pricing!
