Netflix for iPhone updated to support video out

FILED IN gadgets No Comments

We all knew that the iPad version of Netflix’s app supported TV out, allowing you to… you know… hook up your iPad to your TV, but it was a bit disappointing that the feature was missing on the iPhone/iPod Touch.

You can probably guess where I’m going with this, but… an update to the Netflix app came out today that allows you to output all your favourite flix over the video out on your Chinese import i-dock or Apple-certified component AV cable.

The app is available for free from iTunes.

(UPDATED, Again) T-Mobile Confirms MyTouch HD?

FILED IN gadgets 10 Comments

Want to see something interesting?  Well, of course you do!  If you have the time, you should search “HSPA” on the T-Mobile site.  If you don’t have the time, just look above.  What comes up is a nifty image of the MyTouch HD (well that looks familiar), or whatever the final name ends up being (since it only says MyTouch above).  It looks like Android, the Genius Button, HSPA+ connectivity and Video Chat capabilities are confirmed for the low low price of free (that’s what it says at least)?.  Pretty nifty, eh?  I think we need to wait and see how this phone’s story unfolds.  We will make sure to keep you posted.

T-Mobile

UPDATE: Someone dug a little deeper and found some pictures of the MyTouch HD.  It looks like you’ll find some pretty standard stuff on this phone (3.5 mm headphone jack up top, dedicated camera key on the right, micro-USB port on the left, along with a speaker and camera with LED flash around back).  Something tells me that this story is over yet.  Keep an eye out folks!

Engadget

UPDATE!: And the MyTouch HD page is now live on T-Mobile!  Only a coming soon sign though….  Oh well, scroll down (or go to this page) to look at the features and specs! Just F.Y.I. It’s what we thought it was

(Updated) T-Mobile G2 Hinges Loose, Memory Problems Abound?

FILED IN gadgets 10 Comments

We’re not quite how widespread this problem is but we’ve got both the above video from Engadget who are also receiving handfuls of tips regarding this matter as well as Noah from Phonedog who also showcased his own loose hinge troubles. While the G2 hasn’t even made its way to the hands of all the pre-orders and with the launch date still 5 days away its not exactly what the manufacturer and the carrier are hoping to discover. Still, we’ll keep an eye on this and see how truly widespread the problem is and as always sounds off below with any of your own reports of loose hinges. Shall we call this, hinge-gate? I kid I kid.

Along with the hinge trouble, reports have been pretty consistent regarding the amount of memory included with the device. The G2 comes with 4GB of built in memory, however users are reporting free space amounts to under 2 GB’s. Facebook has put out an official statement via their Facebook page:

Thanks for the questions about the G2′s memory. Here’s the scoop: The G2 includes 4GB of internal memory, of which a portion is accessible for downloading applications from the Android Market and a portion is allocated for both the operating system and preloaded applications. You can also store content and some applications on the included 8GB SD card, which is expandable up to 32GB.

Thanks to everyone who brought this to our attention!

[Updated] First Vibrant Update Surfaces, GPS Issues Fixed?

FILED IN gadgets 10 Comments

UPDATE: After getting Kies to finally work, I got the J15 update installed on my Vibrant. So far, I’ve noticed the GPS locks in less than 10 seconds, so it looks like we’ve finally got a true GPS fix!

UPDATE 2: Looks like Samsung has pulled the update from Kies for some reason!

UPDATE 3: T-Mobile has advised against installing the update from Kies because of some “known issues”. Magenta states that an over the air update will be released soon.

While this might not be the Android 2.2 update we’re all hoping for, I’m sure it’ll generate a good amount of excitement for Vibrant owners. Vibrant owners are reporting that a new update is available for download via Samsung Kies. Users report that the update (J15) contains several fixes including the ability to use the Samsung Media Hub app and more importantly, GPS issues seem to finally be resolved. We’re currently downloading the Kies software and we’ll report back with our results! In the meantime, let us know in the comments if you’ve downloaded the update and if you’ve noticed any changes.
