Breakable: iPhone 4 Suffers The Most Damage From Accidents

FILED IN gadgets 10 Comments

According to a report by SquareTrade (a company that sells extended warranties), the iPhone 4 is the phone least likely to fail in the first year but is the most likely to break due to accidental damage.

The year long study looked at 50,000 warranty replacements. The iPhone 4 had the fewest malfunctions not due to accidental damage while Motorola and HTC Android phones tied for second. Blackberry phones failed 6.3% of the time in their first year of use, putting them near the bottom of the list.

More stats:

• The iPhone 3GS is least likely to fail, with BlackBerry not far behind

• Motorola, HTC, and the iPhone 4 failed slightly more often, but none are projected to exceed an overall failure rate of 16%

• The aggregated group of other smart phones had the highest incidence of failure–17% in the first year-making them 44% more likely to fail than the iPhone 3GS

As for breakage, the iPhone 4 is king of the heap with 9.4% shattering in the first year while the Blackberry devices had an accidental damage rate of 6.7%, the lowest. Clearly if they stuck an iPhone inside a Blackberry you’d have the ultimate gorilla phone. Who’s with me?

Spy Camera T-Shirt Cleverly Hides The Lens In The Most Obvious Spot

FILED IN gadgets No Comments

Electronic Spy Camera Shirt (Images courtesy ThinkGeek)
By Andrew Liszewski

Sometimes the best hiding spot is right out in the open, and that’s exactly the philosophy behind ThinkGeek’s latest creation, the Electronic Spy Camera Shirt. The tee features a faux movie poster graphic for a non-existent film called From Tokyo With Love, with the hero looking through the lens of a camera. But it turns out behind that camera is an actual lens for a VGA resolution spy cam.

A remote wired trigger, which can be stashed in your pocket, is used to snap up to 150 covert pics before you need to dump them to a PC via a USB cable, and presumably the 3xAAA batteries are more than enough to get you through an entire mission. Like most electronically enhanced tees the high-tech bits are completely removable for washing purposes, and it’s available now from ThinkGeek for $39.99.

Segatoys Hanappa Nodding Plant Is The Most Agreeable Friend You’ll Ever Have

FILED IN gadgets No Comments

By Andrew Liszewski

Sometimes the best type of friend is not only the one who will listen to all of your complaints, but also completely agree with everything you have to say. But they’re not always easy to find, which is why Segatoys have created these animated flower surrogates designed to always be there for you. You can talk ’til you’re blue in the face and make outrageous claims about your friends, families and co-workers and the Hanappa Plant will nod in agreement to every last word. In fact it almost seems like the perfect pick-me-up, combing the beauty of flowers (your choice of a sunflower, gerbera or a daisy) with the false sense of always being right! As far as I can tell they’re only available in Japan, but AudioCubes.com is now importing them for $59.99.

And if you’ve got a few extra minutes (of course you do if you’re spending your time reading a blog) I recommend checking out this video of the Hanappa Nodding Plant in action. Clearly whoever wrote and produced this little epic had one of these flowers sitting on their desk, falsely assuring them that the script made complete sense.
