RD-R1 and RD-R2 like a boombox, but with Stereo Mic and a Digital Recording mode

FILED IN gadgets No Comments

Ah Boomboxes… So many shameful memories, well at least for me… We all know how popular Boombox were in the past, those noisy sometimes really annoying portable Hi-Fi, are something, in most countries, of the past. But Today JVC, decided that it was just about time to get the Bombox trade back to track with a very interesting and promising new set of products, the RD-R1 and RD-R2 (Sounds a bit like R2-D2 too me).
These two new products goes beyond the Boombox concept and are in fact …

Tama-Robo Ball Bot Looks Like A Poor Man’s Sphero

FILED IN gadgets No Comments

Tama-Robo Ball Robot (Images courtesy the Japan Trend Shop)
By Andrew Liszewski

We’ve already expressed our excitement for Sphero, the smartphone controlled robotic ball, but at this point no one knows when we’ll actually be able to get our hands on one. And if you’re like us, and aren’t so great with the concept of waiting patiently, the Tama-Robo could be a half-decent alternative, if only because it’s available now.

It comes in a kit meaning there’s a bit of assembly required, but your $70 from the Japan Trend Shop, and a bit of hands-on labor, gets you a robot toy in a plastic sphere that’s able to autonomously follow a light source thanks to four sensors you’re probably not going to want to forget while putting it together. Tama-Robo doesn’t seem to be as refined as Sphero though. As you can see in the video included below it spends a lot of time just wobbling around while trying to follow the light, but like I already said it has the distinct advantage of being available right now, so we’re going to cut it a little slack.

Knokkers: Like Pool, But With Bowling Balls

FILED IN Entertainment No Comments

knokkers.jpg

Knokkers (slogan: Knokkers are big fun!) is a giant game of pool with no sticks and bowling balls instead of billiard ones. [Insert 10lb balls joke here] It’s the brainchild of Steve Wienecke, who undoubtedly stayed up countless nights trying to think up a better name than Big Balls Bangin’. (I would’ve just run with it, Steve).

…the first playable version was built in his backyard in Fredericktown, Missouri using loads of railway ties, gravel and of course concrete. The game is played pretty much exactly like standard 8-ball pool, the only real difference is that before your shot you’re allowed to pick up and move the cue ball, though you can’t move your feet once you’ve touched it. Steve is currently working with investors as they design a portable version of the game that doesn’t require a permanent backyard investment, including more durable 6-pound balls that can stand up to the constant collisions experienced during a regular game.

I’m not gonna lie, I’d get drunk and play it. Also, shuffleboard. “Jesus GW, what are you, 80?” No, but I probably have the liver and bladder of one! “OMG, ARE YOU PEEING YOUR PANTS RIGHT NOW?!” I don’t know — am I?

Knokkers – Billiards & Bowling, Together At Last! [ohgizmo]

Thanks to Stephan, who admits the closest he’s every come to playing with Knokkers is mashing his own moobs together in the mirror. Okay now that’s just f***ing sad. View full post on Geekologie – Gadgets, Gizmos, and Awesome
