Smells Viral: Quantum Levitating Toy Racecar Track

FILED IN Entertainment No Comments

wipeout-viral.jpg

This is a fake-ass video of two quantum levitating hover cars racing around a little track inspired by the Playstation classic Wipe’Out. People are passing it around like it’s real, but it’s not — it’s fake. I assume they’ll announce a new Wipe’Out game in the next couple weeks. Ooooooooooooor maybe it’s real. Maybe scientists actually do spend their time making sketchy videos of meticulously reconstructed video game hover cars and race tracks with a giant ‘ ‘WIPEOUT’ printed right in the middle. *eyerolls so hard I lose a contact* Seriously folks, you really can’t believe everything you see — half the time it’s just aliens playing tricks on us with laser beams!

Hit the jump for the worthwhile but fake as shit video. View full post on Geekologie – Gadgets, Gizmos, and Awesome

DIY Magnetic Levitating Sculpture Kit

FILED IN gadgets No Comments

By David Ponce

This is a contraption whose sole purpose is to suspend a magnet cube in midair. But if you’re anything like us, you don’t need any more justification to start wanting this. Think of this item as a cross between a toy, a puzzle and a work of art. It’s a puzzle because you’ll be sure to have some fun assembling the 20 laser-cut pieces of MDF. It’s a toy because, let’s face it, it’s more fun than assembling IKEA furniture so the process itself… screw it, alright, it’s not a toy. But it is somewhat of a work of art in that if you like science at all, you can keep this on display to show the world just how much of a geek you are.

Place the cube magnet in between the specially-cast bismuth cones, and let the forces fight. See, gravity will be pulling the magnet cube down, but the super powerful magnet on top of the sculpture will be pulling the magnet cube up. Slowly turn the wheel of your DIY Magnetic Levitating Sculpture Kit (which adjusts the powerful magnet’s distance from the cube). Once you get the forces balanced (so to speak), the magnet cube will hover in mid air!

It’s $50.

The Future Is Now: This Is A Levitating Lamp

FILED IN gadgets No Comments

By David Ponce

You know it’s the future when America has a black president, Oprah isn’t on anymore and stuff is levitating all over the place. This lamp is yet another example. Look closely at the picture above (or play the video below) and you’ll notice the upper section of this lamp isn’t attached to anything. It’s called Silhouette #1 and will cost you 1,000 Euros. For that price you get a lot of levitation but not that much lighting, as the LED based lamp puts out a puny 300lux.

Well actually, we’re not really sure if 300 lux is a lot of not. We just assumed it isn’t. Any engineers in the crowd?

Sorcery!: Levitating Quantum Superconductors

FILED IN Entertainment No Comments

magic-hovering.jpg

Magnets: Now I’M not even sure how they work.

Just hit the jump and watch the video, you won’t regret it. My brain actually exploded out of my skull halfway through and was all, “finally, I’m free!” which quickly turned to “oh SHIT, look at this dump!” and regretted leaving. You know what I told him? Nothing, I just drooled all over myself until he climbed his ass back in there because it’s harder thinking with cobwebs than a talking skeleton might lead you to believe. This is a video of Tel-Aviv University demoing some “quantum superconductors locked in a magnetic field”. Seriously, just watch it — this is like the future. Of magic tricks.

Hit the jump for the very worthwhile video. View full post on Geekologie – Gadgets, Gizmos, and Awesome
