Last year, when EA Mobile first released Rock Band for the iPhone, it quickly rocketed to the top of the charts. (I mean, come on! Four-player simultaneous multi-mode, so players can use different “instruments” on their iPhones and connect via Bluetooth? Now, that’s ridiculously cool.)
Now, EA Mobile has just launched a new version called Rock Band Reloaded for iPhone — and it’s bringing the action for the very first time to the iPad!
Reloaded boasts vocal recognition, letting players sing right into the device, just like the console players get. Sure, you can still tap along to play the “vocalist” part, just like before, but who wouldn’t want to rock out using the iPhone as a mic? (Although, it might be a bit unwieldy on the iPad, no?) It also offers a setlist with more than 20 songs from artists including Nirvana, No Doubt, Beastie Boys, Nine Inch Nails, and Vampire Weekend, not to mention classic tuneage from Duran Duran and Billy Idol. Players can perform in 6 cities via 36 events in “Tour Mode,” with the ability to earn up to 50 awards and achievements.
iPad players get even more features, with additional customization controls for different playing styles, multiplayer mode (players can go head-to-head live on split-screen), and a new “Big Drums” layout that takes advantage of the bigger display.
This launch version isn’t Game Center-enabled and can’t let players compete with strangers in real time, but you can play with friends over local Wifi and Bluetooth. If they can sort this out, then could be the big-time game app that everyone goes gunning for.
The iPhone app costs $4.99, and the iPad app is $9.99. For more, hit the links to go to iTunes Preview or download them. And if you do, definitely let us know what you think.
(By the way, starting December 7, EA Mobile is also holding a Rock Band Reloaded Rockin’ Sweepstakes. Winners get one of 92 prizes – including a grand prize of the Mad Catz – Rock Band 3 Wireless Fender Mustang PRO-Guitar Controller for Xbox 360/PlayStation 3/Wii. So if you’re rocking this on your console as well, you’ll want to check it out.)
