It’s Dangerous To Go Alone, Want Some Company?: Hacked Legend Of Zelda Marriage Proposal

FILED IN Entertainment No Comments

zelda-proposal-1.jpg

A Zelda-loving couple recently got engaged after brobro hacked an emulated version of The Legend of Zelda to display a “will you marry me?” screen upon entering the cave at the beginning to collect your wooden sword. *sobbing uncontrollably* Always an usher, never even a groomsman.

We had been playing the original Legend of Zelda on an emulator the previous weekend. (My fiance owns the original NES cartridge too, but the emulator makes hacking easier.) A few nights before, he and his roommate finished it, so he asked if I wanted to do the second quest. I said sure, so he turned on the computer and I started playing. When I entered the cave with the old man, (who normally says “It’s dangerous to go alone. Take this!”) who gives you a sword, it instead said what you see in the picture above. I looked over at my fiance; he was kneeling and holding a heart container made out of Legos. The ring was inside. Obviously I said yes!

Edit: Many of you have asked if we are planning on doing a Zelda wedding. I think that’s a bit too nerdy for us…

AHAHHAHAHAHA @ “I think that’s a bit too nerdy for us”. You already had a Zelda themed wedding proposal. If you think for one second dude isn’t gonna try cutting the cake with a Master Sword replica you’ve got another thing coming. Probably fairy-in-a-bottle wedding table decorations. F***, that’s actually a good idea!

Hit the jump for a shot of the LEGO heart container ring “box”.

Siri Hacked To Remotely Start A Car

FILED IN gadgets No Comments

By David Ponce

One enterprising hacker has devised a way to use Siri to start and turn off his car remotely. Here’s how he did it:

I created a new ruby plugin that is used by plamoni’s “Siri Proxy”, a proxy server for Apple’s Siri assistant. This proxy server allows for the creation of custom plugins that can intercept recognized speech and perform virtually any function imaginable (programmable, scriptable).

The “Siri Proxy” plugin I wrote handles interaction with a php script that runs on my web server. The php script, which I developed months ago for personal use, allows me to send commands to my car which has a Viper SmartStart module installed.

Current commands accepted are: “Vehicle Arm”, “Vehicle Disarm”, “Vehicle Start”, “Vehicle Stop”, “Vehicle Pop Trunk”, and “Vehicle Panic”.

–UPDATE: Now it also responds to more conversational commands such as “Start my car”, “Lock my car”, “Pop my trunk”, etc…

The thing is, you clearly still need to have your car starter remote around, so why not just press the button? Clearly this is just a proof of concept and isn’t meant to be a standalone application (even if it had been an unsupported one). But it does make you wonder how things can and most likely will evolve with Siri and voice commands.

Superficial Dating Site BeautifulPeople.com Hacked, Wave Of Ugly People Accepted

FILED IN Entertainment No Comments

beautifulpeople.jpg
Can you tell who doesn’t belong? SPOILER: The lion, sicko.

Apparently “lookist” dating website BeautifulPeople.com was recently hacked, and accepted over 30,000 busted-ass, booboo looking people over the course of six weeks because its rating system was jeopardized. Per company director Dan Hodge, who looks LIKE THIS and probably shouldn’t be a member (unless member = dick, in which case, yes, he is one):

“We responded immediately, repairing the damage from the ‘Shrek Virus’ and putting every new member back into the rating module for a legitimate and democratic vote.

“We have sincere regret for the unfortunate people who were wrongly admitted to the site and who believed, albeit for a short while, that they were beautiful. It must be a bitter pill to swallow, but better to have had a slice of heaven then never to have tasted it at all.”

At first the company thought that an ‘ugly’ who had been rejected had to behind the Shrek Virus but after looking further it was found that the it came from within. A former employee who left the company in May placed the virus into the system as a parting gift.

Now I know what you’re thinking, “hoho, GW’s just jealous because his profile got deleted!” WRONG. I’m so f***ing handsome my laptop’s getting wet right now just because I’m looking at it. Ooooooor I spilled my coffee. Either way, it is starting to smoke.

BeautifulPeople.com claims it was hit by Ugly Virus [digitaljournal]

Thanks to Trevor, who agrees it’s what’s on the inside that counts. Unless the inside is a whole cake, two packages of Oreos and an entire Thanksgiving dinner, in which case you might have to take the outside into consideration. View full post on Geekologie – Gadgets, Gizmos, and Awesome

Codemasters hacked too…

FILED IN gadgets No Comments

BCC brought the matter to light about UK based game developer Codemasters. The personal details of thousands of people have been stolen after a successful hacking attempt to their servers. The enterprise described the data theft as “significant” saying names, addresses, phone numbers and dates of birth were all taken on 3th June.
No need to shiver, unlike Sony, Codemasters said that payment details were not compromised. They also took the compromised website offline as “as …
