Samsung Vibrant Qualifies Only As First Phone For The Buy One Get One Free Sale
Jul 12th
Ok so just one more article on the Samsung Vibrant tonight, this time answering quite a bit of your comments from previous posts regarding the buy one get one status. As you can see above, the Samsung Vibrant will be available for the first handset in the current buy one get one sale starting July 15th. There isn’t much more to this, however this should quite nicely put to rest any debate on the status of the Vibrant BOGO status. Just remember, this likely means the Vibrant WILL NOT be free, but available to use as the first phone with the second phone free.

My First Autobahn
Jul 12th

By Andrew Liszewski
At $18 a roll for roughly 108 feet (33 meters) this My First Autobahn tape is a little expensive to use as a whimsical alternative to regular packing tape, which is probably why Sleek Identity is instead positioning it as an alternative to those ‘roadway’ rugs for a child’s playroom. Just lay it down in any pattern creating a unique highway system, and when your kid inevitably gets bored of it you can just pull it all up, hopefully not taking the finish off the floors as well. And yes, it does come with a small, slightly out-of-scale toy car.

Be The First To Own The Samsung Vibrant, Thanks To eBay
Jul 10th
One of the posts I enjoy doing most around here is the almost clockwork like eBay sale that inevitably comes before the release of a high profile device like the Samsung Vibrant. We’ve seen it with the myTouch Slide, myTouch 3G, and the Motorola Cliq just to name a few. Something to mention here is the failure of the seller to get the proper bands right for the T-Mobile edition only mentioning Bands 850/900/1800/1900, so a little bit of fail right there. We’re not sure how exactly this person got their hands on a Vibrant so early as we haven’t heard anything about people getting their hands on them early. However, someone somehow got a hold of one and it can be yours if the price is right!

Report: Fujitsu develops its first Android phone
Jul 9th
And we have yet another cell phone maker joining the Android bandwagon. Various Japanese media, for example Sankei Digital [JP], are reporting that Fujitsu is currently working on an Android-based smartphone.
Details are scarce at this point, but Fujitsu is planning to market the device to the 55 million mobile subscribers NTT Doccomo has first (Docomo is Japan’s biggest cell phone carrier). It will be Fujitsu’s first Android phone and is expected to hit stores next year.
Currently, the company doesn’t have any smartphones in its line-up (even though it’s often hard to spot significant differences between so-called smartphones and the normal feature phones that are available here in Japan). Fujitsu is planning to bring the Android phone to markets outside Japan as well.
The company was in the news just last month, when it announced plans to merge cell phone operations with Toshiba as early as October this year.
The picture above shows one of the last “smartphones” Fujitsu manufactured, the FOMA F1100 that the company introduced back in 2007.

Two teen developers snag the world’s first Windows Phone 7 handsets

When most people are 16, the extent of their programming knowledge — if there’s any to be spoken of — is pretty much limited to using conditional loops to print an endless stream of obscenities to the screen. These guys, however, are using their programming know-how to jetset around the world, rock competitions, and take home hardware unavailable to just about anyone else in the world.
Meet Eric Lo, 16, and Christian Hood, 17. Armed with nothing but a few weeks worth of effort, the desire to build something cool, and a Wiimote they hacked to act as the accelerometer in place of the handset they didn’t have, they emerged with Droid Assault for Windows Phone 7. They submitted it to Microsoft’s Rockstar challenge — and they won.
Beyond a free trip to Poland for the Awards Ceremony and a fat check, Microsoft surprised the guys with Windows Phone 7 handsets — the first of their kind, outside of Microsoft and Co.’s development labs — to take home. Turns out, all of the finalists (which, with around 103 teams named, works out to around 350 people) get handsets as well. You hear that ticking? Thats the countdown before these things start popping up on eBay.

T-Mobile’s First HSPA+ Capable Handset Coming September?
Jul 7th
According to the guys over at LightReading, T-Mobile’s first HSPA+ capable handset is due in September. LightReading claims that, according to an unnamed spokesman at Deutsche Telekom, T-Mobile USA’s first HSPA+ handset which will fully take advantage of its HSPA+ network will be manufactured by HTC and will be running none other than Google’s Android OS. Additionally, the DT spokesman also mentions that another HSPA+ capable handset will make its way to Magenta just in time for the holiday season. Further details were not provided.
When asked regarding T-Mobile USA’s plans on further upgrading HSPA+ to the rumored 42 Mbps, the Deutsche Telekom spokesman replied:
T-Mobile USA has not decided yet if they will use the new 42 Mbps standard or maybe rollout LTE for the US. This decision will be made at a later point of time after having considered all necessary aspects and the experiences made with both HSPA+ and LTE in the other markets of Deutsche Telekom.
Keep in mind folks, while updating to HSPA+ 21 Mbps did not require additional hardware and mostly took software changes, updating the network to support HSPA+ 42 Mbps will require Magenta to update its cellsites with new multi-antenna base stations to reach the higher speeds.
