A few hours ago a Sprint corporate communications manager decided to stir the pot by declaring Sprint the only “true” 4G carrier by using a little math. You can see her version of mathematics above and while she definitely used you know, numbers she obviously skipped the day they handed out the ability to fact check. Claiming that the ITU and their decision to declare “evolved” 3G services like HSPA+ and Sprint’s very own Wimax on the same day she goes on to say that the ITU is just one “perspective.” Is she serious? Did someone spike the eggnog at the Sprint holiday party? This is a joke. By her own logic, my perspective is that the world should have just one carrier, T-Mobile and that the skies and the oceans should be a nice shade of Magenta. However, that’s just my perspective and it’s certainly far different than what the facts are.
With her title as Sprint corporate communications she shouldn’t have so easily shrugged off an international body’s decision. We’re T-Mobile cheerleaders around here so it’s obvious in matters such as these we’re going to defend the T-Mobile position; but the ITU is a bi-partisan group and their decision is taken as more than just “perspective.”
So here we go Stephanie, I’m going to do a little math for you:
The Facts: 1, Sprint: 0

In case you missed it, the new upcoming myTouch made a surprise appearance at CTIA and then we even saw others go hands on with the hardware prototype. But that’s not the only thing T-Mobile revealed at Mobile Focus 2010. Apparently Magenta released a fact sheet for the upcoming T-Mobile myTouch HD. Although most of the content on the fact sheet is already known, we noticed one specific item on the sheet that caught our attention. T-Mobile TV. It looks like the myTouch HD will include T-Mobile TV, which according to the fact sheet, offers live and on-demand TV, including always free programming from ABC News Now, Fox Sports, PBS Kids, Disney, Univision, family holiday movie favorites and more. Sounds interesting! We’re looking for more details, so stay tuned! Larger image after the jump!

Eric Zeman at Informationweek notes that the Galaxy S line of Samsung smartphones, including the Vibrant and the Captivate suffer from the Death Grip – essentially a massive loss of signal strength when the phone is held “wrong.” The same thing happens on the Kin and any number of phones out there. The only difference is the way you hold it.
In short, Eric confirms the obvious: phones are imperfect and their transmission characteristics change based on a number of unrelated yet important factors including, but not limited to, the way you hold the phone. Is Eric lauded for pointing this out? Nope. In the comments he gets stuff like:
Boy, for the most part I have to agree with everyone. Eric, your reporting is shoddy and your credibility is shot for future articles no matter how improved they may be.
Let’s get some perspective on why Apple has caused their own problems and provoke the attacks on them.
1) Apple released the iPhone 4 too early to avoid losing market share to the Evo & Droid X. They sacrificed further QA testing and development in the process.
2) Apple is like the teen queen snooty high schooler how feels and acts like she is better than everyone else. Consequently when she trips in the lunch room or walks out of the bathroom with toilet paper trailing people get a good laugh at her expense. Why, she provoked the animosity.
While I agree that the Death Grip problem is a problem, it’s not a huge problem. It’s only become a huge problem because millions of people are obsessively fondling their iPhones this month and noticing every little thing while perhaps 100,000 people in the US are fondling their Galaxy S phones, if that. The problem, then, is in perception. This schadenfreude is, while misplaced, highly apt and Apple is apparently trying to remedy it as we speak. Will they succeed? We shall see.
