Digg founder: Apple’s iTV could “change everything”

Not long ago rumors started circulating that Apple’s revamped effort at grabbing a share of the TV market could lead to an iOS powered set-top box. The product is rumored to be out next month, and will cost $99. This September release date is according to an unnamed source, at least that’s what Captain Digg, (Kevin Rose), says.
Rose is of the opinion that it could change the whole way TV works. As it’s an iOS based device it will run on TV apps, meaning you select which content you want running. The iAd platform will mean no advertisements unless you click on them. He stated:
“With Apple’s iAds, content producers (eg. ABC/NBC/etc.) can directly monetize and distribute their content. This will eventually destroy the television side of the cable and satellite industry, as your only requirement to access these on-demand stations will be an internet connection. Say goodbye to your monthly cable bill.”
Other features could include using your iPad as a control, or even using it to view different camera angles whilst watching the Football. Using the MobileMe service you could also share photos and videos with friends, because, let’s face it. If the device only costs one hundred bucks, and it means no subscription fees, who wouldn’t own one?
The one thing I see being an issue is the name. ITV is the second largest TV network in the UK, and has held the name for decades, and they have already stated they will do what they can to block Apple’s application to register iTV as its trademark. So, if Apple can’t have the name, what will it be called?
