You know what we here at OhGizmo! love most? Gadgets of course… But if we had to choose a close second, it would be intricately detailed and functional scale models. Whether it’s a 10,000+ piece Jawa Sandcrawler made out of LEGO, or Jack Clemens’ faithful and flyable scale reproduction of the USS Macon. At 20 feet in length the model barely fits in Jack’s two-car garage, but any smaller and the volume of helium inside wouldn’t be enough to allow the mini Macon to actually lift off.
Interestingly enough, the USS Macon pictured here is actually the third model Jack has built. The first was destroyed by a cat jumping off a shelf onto the prototype. The second, possibly the most historically accurate of the three, was totaled in a windy test flight. (The original USS Macon was lost when damaged in a thunderstorm in 1935.) But the third managed to survive until completion.
Eight small propellers, powered by a single 2.5 ounce lithium polymer battery is all that’s needed to propel the mini Macon, which is controlled and steered by a standard RC remote that talks to a receiver in the craft’s cockpit. All in all the USS Macon model represents about 2 1/2 years of Jack’s life, and $6,000. And he eventually hopes to donate it to a museum being built in Moffett Field, California, which is where the original USS Macon called home.

In a rather unusual course of action, T-Mobile has apparently decided to discount the retail prices of the Motorola CHARM and the T-Mobile MyTouch 3G with 3.5mm Jack.
The Motorola CHARM has been discounted from $269.99 to $199.99, and the T-Mobile MyTouch 3G with 3.5mm Jack has been discounted from $399.99 to $299.99. The discount applies to all colors that the devices are available in. Though we didn’t report it before, T-Mobile has done this three times before. The first time was with the T-Mobile Comet, which was discounted from $199.99 to $149.99 a few months after it was released. The second time was with the Motorola CLIQ 2, which was discounted from $399.99 to $269.99 over Valentines’ Day weekend. Both discounts were quietly launched, with no mention of the discounts anywhere except at the site and in corporate stores. The CLIQ 2 offer was quietly removed on the Monday after Valentines’ Day weekend, as if it never existed. The third time was with the Samsung Galaxy Tab in January, we skipped over the fact the retail price dropped from $599.99 to $499.99, and talked about the contract price drop instead.
For those who prefer contract-free service, these are compelling for those who don’t need top of the line Android phones. And like the CLIQ 2 offer, this probably is only for a limited time, so grab it while it’s hot!

This isn’t the first video review we’ve seen for the Motorola Charm and the general consensus is that T-Mobile and Motorola put together a sharp little phone, with an average screen. I think this safe to say that the introduction of this phone won’t detract from the attention the G2 will receive, but it might be a nice little introduction to the Android platform for T-Mobile customers.
We’ll update this post as more video reviews come online!

The Motorola Charm, that QWERTY little Motorola phone is now available in your choice of Golden Bronze or Cabernet. You can have it with a 3-megapixel camera, MOTOBLUR and all for a lovely little price of $74.99. Unfortunately, no sign of UMA has been found even so our leaked slide had given us a shred of hope. Our prayers for T-Mobile’s first UMA Android device remain and hopefully they shall be answered soon.
