$2M In Sports Cars Impounded After 2 Fast ‘N Furious Canadians Street Race To Dinner

FILED IN Entertainment No Comments

doing-it-wrong.jpg

Police
in Vancouver, British Columbia impounded 13 exotic sports cars after their drivers decided to race them to dinner on the highway at speeds in excess of 120MPH. No word on what restaurant they were going to, but that shit must be f***in’ goooooooood.

What the racers, who police said are all under age 21, won’t get is harsh punishment.

“Each driver will be charged with Driving without Reasonable Consideration and receive a violation ticket with a specified penalty of $196. Additionally, these drivers will be responsible for all associated towing and storage charges,” according to the RCMP press release.

That’s because police didn’t actually catch them in the act and acted only on witness accounts. They weren’t caught on radar, video or seen by a police officer, Superintendent Norm Gaumont, RCMP officer in charge of traffic enforcement for the Lower Mainland, told the Surrey Now newspaper. The cars:

2007 Ferrari 599
2010 Lamborghini Gallardo
2010 Lamborghini Gallardo
2009 Lamborghini Gallardo
2009 Audi R8
2012 Nissan GT-R
2010 Nissan GT-R
2010 Nissan GT-R
2010 Maserati Turismo
2010 Maserati Turismo
2011 Mercedes SL63
2011 Mercedes SLS
2005 Aston Martin DB9

Whoa whoa whoa — THEY WERE ALL UNDER 21?! God I hate rich, spoiling parents. You know why? Because they raise dickweeds. Me? I’m a vaginaflower. Like something straight out of a Georgia O’Keefe painting. Still, I can’t help but feel bad for the kids driving the 2010 GT-R’s. I mean come on, those things are only worth like $70K now. YOUR PARENTS ARE POOR AND DON’T LOVE YOU. Kidding — KIDDING (but only about the poor part).

Canadians rejoice: the Nexus S is coming in March

FILED IN gadgets 2 Comments

According to Moblicity CEO, Dave Dobbin, everyone’s favourite Gingerbread totin’ handset — The Samsung Nexus S — will be released through the company’s AWS brand come March. If you care not for AWS, then you’ll be happy to hear that Doctor Dobbs also said that Bell, Telus, and Rogers will also carry the hot new handset.

This means that there is a WCDMA 850/1900 variant in the works. The astute in the audience will recognise that such a variant should also work with AT&T in the US — a boon for any AT&T devout out there that have been lusting after the device these last few months.

The news dropped at a Howard Forums meet-up held this week. If you want to catch it all for yourself, I’ve embedded the video, below. It’s over an hour in length, though, so you may want to use the handy table of contents here, to help navigate the behemoth.

Canadians get iPhone 4 today, get better deals than us

FILED IN gadgets No Comments

What we U.S. iPhone users go through just to have an unlocked phone… Some of us deny ourselves the latest software to stick with a jailbroken and unlocked older version, as we wait for a hack to debut for the current software. Others will get devices from other countries, which will be readily available unlocked, tapping every friend they know abroad to buy and ship the handsets to them.

Yessirree, it’s not an easy sitch. And items like this just pour salt in the wound.

Today is Canada’s iPhone 4 launch day, and they’re getting the option of unlocked devices.* Sure, without a carrier subsidy, they’re more expensive, but at least these consumers can nab the devices and then choose from three different carriers for it (Bell, Rogers and Telus). That’s it — no fuss, jumping through hoops or waiting for hacks. And that’s not all.

As another option, for budget-conscious users, customers who don’t mind contracts can even pick a three-year term that drops the handset down to super cheapo levels: $159/$269 for the 16GB and 32GB models, respectively. There’s also good news with data plans, as the $30 for 6GB option has been restored. (On AT&T, it’s $25 for 2GB.)

Jealous yet? Check this out: No less than TWO Canadian carriers are allowing dual iDevice subscribers to share their data plans between the iPad 3G and iPhone 4 for a small fee. On Rogers, customers can add the iPad for $20. On Bell, it’s even less: just a mere $10.

The bottom line is our neighbors to the north have way better options: An unlocked phone without hassle, a standard two-year plan and subsidy, or a three-year contract with huge phone discount. And unlike American iPhone users — who either pay twice for data on their two iDevices or pay $45 for data plus tethering, with a 2GB cap — Canadian users can share a whopping 6GB data between the phone and the iPad for as little as $40.

(See, this is what happens when carriers compete for your business. Better terms, better service, and more options.)

Congrats, Canadian users. Enjoy your launch day, you lucky dogs.

UPDATE: If Canadian users get an iPhone 4 from a carrier, it’s actually locked to the carrier. Looks like the activation process is what locks it. Full-priced devices gotten directly from Apple, however, are sold unlocked. Via: Engadget
