Video: Smartphone Simulates Sensation Of Buttons On A Touchscreen

FILED IN gadgets No Comments

Do you miss the feeling of pressing physical buttons when you touch icons or letters on a smartphone touchscreen? Japan’s second largest mobile carrier KDDI is working on a display that recreates exactly that “clicking sensation” by combining vibration with a pressure sensor.

The haptic display, which is manufactured by Kyocera, is still in prototype mode. Apparently, KDDI currently aims at developing a thinner multi-touch version before offering the screen to manufacturers of cell phones.

What’s interesting is that the company says there are three different sensations the display can recreate, two for clicking on numbers or letters and one for pushing icons (for example, the screen can recreate the sensation of pushing soft buttons if the user prefers it that way).

This video (in English, shot by Diginfonews in Tokyo) provides more insight:

Finally: A Steering Wheel With More Buttons

FILED IN Entertainment No Comments

porsche-wheel.jpg

You know, I was just stuck in LA traffic the other day mercilessly beating my head on the steering wheel hoping to die when I realized, “you know what this wheel really needs? A desk more buttons.” Well, I guess Porsche was listening when designing the wheel for their upcoming 911 GT3 Hybrid! Damn I just want to mash all of those aside, there’s also another interesting feature. See it? Look at the middle dial on the left. Notice anything? They all go up to 11. That’s some futuristic technology if I’ve ever seen it! 10? Pfft, this shit goes 11. *cranks them all the way being tearing the dials off* EAT MY DUST LEFTOVERS, HOSEBAGS! “Leftovers?” Yeah, there’s still half a tuna-melt in the fridge — I’m out! *VrrooooOOOOOOOOOM — CRASH!* Oh shi-shi. *fleeing the scene on foot*

Thanks to Bakker, who once tore his steering wheel off in a fit of road rage and plowed into the back of a truck. Ha, and they won’t give me a license! View full post on Geekologie – Gadgets, Gizmos, and Awesome

Pushing Your Buttons: A Keyboard Tuxedo

FILED IN Entertainment No Comments

tuxedo-keyjacket.jpg

Nice shirt, bro. IT’S CALLED AN IRON.

Because arts & crafters will never stop hot-gluing things to other things, this is a nonfunctional keyboard tuxedo (not to be confused with functional keyboard pants) made out of 1. a jacket and 2. a bunch of computer keys. It looks like something that crazy f*** with all the question marks on his jacket would wear (you’re no Riddler), making it the last thing a normal person would want to be caught dead in. Or caught spread-eagle on the kitchen floor in for that matter. No sir, you’re gonna want a ‘KISS THE COOK’ apron for that one.

A Jacket For Geeks [makeuseof]

Thanks to Sharlene, who fashioned a mousepad dress once but used Elmer’s glue instead of hot-glue and was naked before she even left the house. View full post on Geekologie – Gadgets, Gizmos, and Awesome
