Asian Power: China Mobile, NTT Docomo And KT Form Business Alliance

FILED IN gadgets No Comments

It can’t get bigger than this in Asia’s mobile industry, and in fact, it’s a business alliance with the potential to shake things up on a global level. Today, the world’s biggest mobile carrier China Mobile, Japan’s No. 1 player NTT Docomo and Korea’s leading telco KT have announced the establishment of a “broad-based business tie-up”.

Details are scarce at this point, but the three telecommunications giants will work together in such areas as LTE infrastructure, smartphone services, software development, roaming services, and international marketing of handsets to multinational corporations.

It looks like geographically, the alliance will be focusing on North East Asia, at least initially.

KT already entered a business partnership with China Mobile last year and also has capital ties with Docomo.

[CES 2011] PlanOn SlimScan Business Card And Receipt Scanner

FILED IN gadgets No Comments

PlanOn SlimScan (Image property OhGizmo!)
By Andrew Liszewski

PlanOn’s raison d’ĂȘtre seems to be the continued pursuit of shrinking the world’s office equipment. They already sell printers and scanners that slip easily into a briefcase, or even a deep jacket pocket, but they’ve really gone above and beyond the call of duty with their new SlimScan scanner.

Not only is it designed to scan smaller documents like business cards and receipts, but it also happens to be roughly the same size as them. Scanning is accomplished by dragging the bottom edge of the SlimScan across your document, which then stores the image in the scanner until you sync it with your PC via its miniUSB port. From there you can either leave it as an image, or use the included OCR software to convert it to copyable/importable text. According to the company the SlimScan is already in production and will be available by the end of January for $119.99.
