Back when the iPhone 4 was first released it wasn’t long before the first drop test was done and uploaded on to YouTube. iFixYouri uploaded one back then that showed the device’s glass breaking after 3 drops from a few feet up. Now, they’ve done the same thing again, but with a Bumper added, for extra protection.
.
As you can tell, it hasn’t improved the likelihood of surviving a few drops at all. In fact, it seems if you drop it on the glass front, it will break. Apple, unfortunately, emphasized its strong glass front and back way too much, now it seems like its coming back to bite Jobs in the behind. This does beg the question though: Was the Bumper only designed to save the antenna problem?
Are you a manly man? Do you wish to test your iPhone case or at least understand the potential damage it can survive? No. You are not. That’s why this video exists.
The guys at iFixYouri took their frustrations out on the iPhone 4 and what they found chills the blood. The iPhone 4 survived three drops on concrete while the 3G and 3GS survived about 5. Regardless, it’s abundantly clear that the bumper case is insufficient for most iPhone protection needs and should be taken out back and shot.
I’m currently using some Case-Mate silicone cases, which work well enough. What have you guys found that works?
