Jobs was warned about iPhone 4 antenna problems?
Jul 16th

According to Bloomberg, concern was raised over a year ago with the potential for the iPhone 4′s antenna design to drop calls. Ruben Caballero, an antenna expert at apple, spoke with management last year and expressed his concerns that its design could cause some reception troubles. (Apple denies this.)
This is the first indication that Apple knew about this problem beforehand. Until now, all we got from them as acknowledgment was a software fix that made the bars display more accurate, which so far seems to be ineffective. This report backs up what was previously stated about the internal struggles between Apple’s design and engineering teams. If this is all true, Apple may need to provide a solution, be it a free bumper or a recall. That would undoubtedly be the largest recall in the history of recalls.
If this is true, Jobs himself is at fault, if he knew about this problem but he went ahead and released it anyways. Now Apple might have to pay the consequence.
What do you think should happen and who is at fault? Let us know in the comments below.

Jul 16th
iPhone fans everywhere have patiently waited for Apple to release the white version of the iPhone 4. After a few delays and chewed off finger nails, Apple has officially announced that the white iPhone 4 will be shipping across the nation at the end of this month.
Originally it was believed that the white version was going to be in stores the middle of this month. After a few delays, we can now look forward to picking one up later this month. There have been many theories out there about why the white iPhone was delayed, and some of you may have taken advantage of changing the color of your iPhone with this DIY.
What are your thoughts, can you wait a couple of more weeks to pick up your white iPhone 4 or is the wait too much for you? Let us know in the comments below.

NOTE: Just want to reiterate that Jobs indicated the white version will only be available in limited quantities. So if this is what you’re lusting after, you won’t want to wait to order it — whenever it is that ordering becomes available. As of yet, no change on Apple.com

Get a caricature drawn over FaceTime
Jul 16th

By now you have probably heard of FaceTime; it allows you to video chat with another iPhone 4 user over Wi-Fi. But, as it is only with iPhone 4 users, you may have run out of people to call and talk to. All your friends have seen your room, you new hair cut, and whatever else you chose to show them.
So what else can you do with this new feature? You could vid chat with Dave Lanham, an artist who does caricatures of people over FaceTime. Lanham is a designer at Icon Factory, the company behind Twitterific and other graphic software, and for $50, he will hit you up over FaceTime and draw you a Twitter avatar you can show off.
Here is a video of his process

Apple: White iPhone 4 Will Ship At The End Of July
Jul 16th
Anyone remember how there were two iPhone 4 models announced at the last Stevenote? A black one and a white one, right? But we’re three weeks into the iPhone 4’s life and only the black model is available. Mr. Apple himself just stated at the end of the iPhone 4’s antenna talk that’s going to change by the end of the month.
So far users have been modding their black iPhone’s with white OEM parts found various places on line. This of course isn’t Apple-sanctioned but some people really wanted the white model.
The real question however is if the white model will ship with any internal enhancements to better counter the antenna problem. There has been talk that some sort of internal bumper could help and perhaps Apple delayed the already-late white iPhone 4s just so they could better engineer a solution. We’ll find out at the end of the month.

Apple iPhone 4 press conference in a nutshell
Jul 16th
Some people love absorbing every word or pause in a speech. Others just want to know the bottom line. If you’re in the latter camp, here’s the end user’s bottomline outcome of all this, summed up:
- Free cases: Jobs did not apologize, but did say “we’re not perfect,” which is as close to an apology as he’d ever to put out there. (He also says no smartphone is perfect, and brought up some examples of other phones showing signal loss when gripped a certain way, like the Blackberry Bold 9700, the Samsung Omnia and the Droid Eris.) But he does admit that the iPhone 4 drops slightly more calls than the 3GS. (Less than 1 per 100 calls.) So to please customers, the company is going to offer free cases to anyone who bought/buys an iPhone 4 through September 30. (The cases presumably protect against signal loss.) He did not mention how to get them yet. But if you already bought a Bumper from Apple, keep your eyes on the news. You’re going to get a full refund of your purchase amount, so stay tuned to find out how.
- The company has acknowledged the proximity sensor issue and is working on a fix.
- The White iPhone 4 has been confirmed as coming at the end of July.
(If you want the juicy details, hop on over to this post, which includes moment-by-moment event coverage, plus highlights from the Q&A.)
Reactions are diverse across the web. Some people were surprised by Apple’s admission and were satisfied by the “make-good” attempt with the free cases. Others think this was a really lame press conference that didn’t offer enough details on how Apple planned to fix the signal issues. What’s your take on it?

Jobs: A Free Case For Every iPhone 4 User
Jul 16th
Today at Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino, CEO Steve Jobs took the stage to address the iPhone 4 antenna issue. First he rattled of some numbers to show how small the problem actually is. But he also acknowledged that some people are having problems — and they want everyone to be happy. So what are they doing? Free bumpers and cases (as we predicted).
Jobs says that everyone who buys an iPhone 4 through September will get a case for free. He also noted that anyone who has already bought an iPhone 4 will get one for free. And if anyone has already bought one of Apple’s bumpers, Apple will refund the cost.
