Video: World’s first Tegra 2 phone, the LG Star, vs iPhone 4

FILED IN gadgets No Comments

If you’ve been drooling over that LG Tegra 2 powered 4″ beast that we recently spied, but wanting more than what a few spy shots can deliver, then check this out: there’s now a video available.

The guys over at GSM Israel have managed to get their hands on the device, and have given it not only a thorough photo-shoot, but also a video.

The video, embedded below, compares the Star’s browser speeds against an iPhone 4. If you speak Hebrew, you’ll probably get a bit more from the video than I did, but don’t let that stop you from checking it out — it’s thrill-a-minute stuff*.

You also get to see some of the modifications LG has done to the Android UI, including the floating system apps at the bottom of the app drawer.

SPOILER ALERT: Browser speeds are much the same between devices.

Motorola splits mobile division into standalone company

FILED IN gadgets No Comments

It’s been a long time coming, but Motorola have finally split their once ailing Mobile division into its own company.

Come January 4th 2011, Motorola, Inc. will become two separate companies: Motorola Solutions, Inc. — in charge of the infrastructure businesses — and Motorola Mobility Holdings, Inc. — in charge of mobile phones and consumer devices.

Motorola currently has two co-CEOs; Greg Brown and Sanjay Jha. Old Greg will be in charge of Motorola Solutions, while the Jha-zilla will run Motorola Mobility Holdings.

Clearly, things have changed around Motorola’s mobile division since they decided to split in 2008. The runaway success of the Droid line of phones has turned the division around so that they are once again profitable.

You can expect many more Android phones — like the Tegra 2 powered Olympus — and tablets to come from Moto in the future.
