Dual-display Samsung Continuum detailed in pics

FILED IN gadgets No Comments

Hot on the heels of the bulk Verizon leak today, comes a bucketload of images of the Samsung Continuum. You remember the Continuum, don’t you? The one that grabbed your attention as being “a dual-screened Android-powered monster”.

I know that sparked my curiosity, so I’m rather happy that BGR now have a bunch of (quality) images showing the device and it’s handy dandy ticker-style secondary display.

When the main display is turned off, the secondary display shows updates from IM, email, SMS, Facebook, Twitter, and others (hopefully customisable like on LauncherPro). When the main screen is on, however, the ticker shows the current time and weather.

Now, having a screen on all the time would drain battery, right? Well, the phone also has a grip sensor, so will only turn on the ticker display when you pick up the phone.

The ticker screen serves as a much more useful version of the notifications LED on current Android devices. When notifications arrive, you will be able to see what they are at a glance, rather than having to unlock your device or remember which sound was associated with which app.

And, as you were hoping, the ticker display is also touch sensitive, so you can swipe across different updates, or tap on one to turn on the main screen and open the associated app.

The device carries the model number SCH-i400, and is a(nother) Galaxy S, so packs the same 1GHz hummingbird processor, 336MB RAM, and Super-AMOLED display (BGR also presume that it has the same camera and battery) as the Verizon Fascinate.

All in all, I think Samsung have come up with a wonderful concept for at-a-glance information, and a compelling reason to make the move to a Galaxy phone + Touchwiz UI.

The BOND Bike Is Worthy Of 007

FILED IN gadgets No Comments

By Chris Scott Barr

There are a lot of bike riders in the city where I reside. So many, that most of the main roads have special bike lanes for them to ride in. Thus, I see a lot of bikes in my daily life. For the most part they all look sort of the same, with nothing to really make one stand out from the rest. Sure, some are road bikes and others are mountain bikes, but those are the only real differences you see. So what does one have to do to really turn heads? You need to get this BOND bike.

While the name will inspire images of 007, it’s actually an acronym for Built of Notorious Deterrents (however, it likely isn’t a coincidence). It was designed after polling 800 cyclists about their least favorite parts of riding a bike. Thus, a flamethrower was added to keep cars from edging you off the road, an ejector seat to keep thieves from stealing your ride and a ski blade and an all-terrain caterpillar track on the rear wheel to get you through any environment.

This truly does seem like the most awesome bike on the road. Unforutnately, you’re not going to be able to purchase it. Something tells me you’d land in a bit of hot water with that flamethrower anyway. It was simply built as an art piece to raise awareness about cyclists.

Windows Phone 7 launches Oct 11, handsets on sale Nov 8

FILED IN gadgets 1 Comment

Last week I told you how Windows Phone 7 handsets will probably begin shipping on November 8. Well, Microsoft aren’t about to start trying to sell handsets without at least a little hype before release.

And now it’s seeming more and more likely that the hype will begin on October 11.

The Wall Street Journal today reported that Microsoft will “formally unveil a lineup of smartphones using the revamped version of its mobile operating system on Oct. 11, and AT&T Inc. will begin offering them four weeks later”.

This sits well with what we heard last week, as well as launch rumours from June.

There is an open house event scheduled in New York City for October 11, but neither BGR nor Electronista expected any big announcements to be made there, so we’ll have to wait and see how this all pans out.

Earlier whispers said that AT&T signed up for 8 million WinPho7 devices, and will be the exclusive carrier at launch.

[Shameless Promotion] ARDefender, the best iPhone 4 AR Game yet.

FILED IN gadgets No Comments

Granted that I may not be very objective on this one, since the guys at Int13 are friends, sure I whish this application could be Retina Display compatible and would love to see more “AR Tags” available, multiplayers mode, but sold at 0.79€ or $0.99 on the App Store, ARDenfer is a must have.
Based on the Tower defense game play, AR Defender use Augmented Reality and let you setup your “Tower”, an AR Tag, anywhere at home, the office or when traveling around.
Bought it yesterday, and I am …
