iPhone OS 4.0.1 (with “bars” fix) – available for download
As expected, the latest software release is finally here. The update predictably deals with the way it determines how many bars of signal are showing on the iPhone. Since the launch of the latest device the internet has been overflowing with various explanations and tests as to why the antenna seems to be having such a huge issue with dropping calls. From free Bumpers, to “No” free Bumpers, from Consumer Reports not recommending it, to Apple’s “it’s a software problem”, there’s been no sign of any pleasing resolution.
Hopefully, now, this is it done and dusted. Head over to your iTunes now, plug in your device and give it a go. The update is free, (obviously), and is for iPhone 4, 3GS and 3G.
Let me know how the process goes. I’m in the middle of trying to get it downloaded, and I’ve just this second received an error message. I’m not sure if this is to do with the high numbers of people downloading the fix-up, or if its a network connection issue. Comment below if it was successful, or if you’re having problems.
