Apple iTunes 9.2 Release Date Expected on June 21st?

Apple have let it slip some of the new features that we can expect to see when they update their iTunes service.  The new 9.2 edition is expected to be ready in time for the new Apple OS, the iOS 4 and will see a host of minor improvements.

Currently available as a beta, the new iTunes won’t be radical departure from what we have seen before, however it will allow users to sync and read books with iPhone or iPod touch using iPhone OS4 and iBook.

The new update will see users able to organise their home screen into folders using iTunes.

You will be able to organise and sync PDF documents as books and for the first time you’ll be able to read PDF’s within the new iBook app.

Some improvements on the backend of iTunes will see faster back-ups while syncing and increased performance on scrolling.

Many of the new features relate to the soon to be released iPhone 4G. We’re still waiting for major revamp of the general look of iTunes and this update isn’t it, but we suspect it will happen soon as it starting to look a bit dated.

With the release of iOS4 confirmed for June 21 which we suspect that iTune 9.2 will be made ready either the same time, or a few days before.

It would seem that Skype are looking to get into bed with Apple after a insider from Skype was quoted saying “we would welcome the opportunity to work with Apple”.

The mystery man let it slip that the company is really excited at the prospect of working with the new FaceTime app that Apple announced this week at the WWDC.

Now there is no evidence that this will ever come true, but the thought of FaceTime and Skype does sound like a interesting combination.

So expect to see Skype courting Apple over the next few months, however ultimately the decision will come from Steve Jobs and we for one can’t see it happen. But never say never.

Would you like to see FaceTime integration within Skype? Let us know below…

Want a little glimpse of the future?

Imagine the year is 2020 and we’re all living in bubbles in space and being waited on by robots (if ‘Tomorrow’s World’ and ‘The Jetsons’ got it right anyway). You’ve made a small fortune somehow (completely legally we hope) and own this Audi A9. Why did you chose that car?

Well for a start it looks so damned cool. Completely whited out windows (black out is so 21st century…) which the Spanish designer, Daniel Garcia, assures us will be completely transparent from the inside. Blue trim on the wheels and sleek, smooth contours. I’m not a car person but this does look beautiful. A petrol engine controls four electric motors, making it similar to today’s hybrid cars (that’s as technical as I get on that front – sorry).

So what though? All future cars will probably be beautiful right? Ok, so here’s the cincher. The Audi A9 uses nanotechnology to ‘heal’ any unsightly little scratches, not only keeping the aesthetics exceptional, but also preventing rust damage from those tiny nicks you can’t be bothered to touch ups. Not only that, but Garcia has also adapted the technology further and predicts that it could be used to create and electronic painting system that could sweep over the car and change it’s colour. So just because you don’t like your partner’s lime green paint job doesn’t mean it’ll have to cause any arguments.

Think 2020 is a bit too soon for such a concept to be brought to life? Nope. Ten years is the predicted arrival time of the technology. So in a decade, I’ll be the one with the apparently opaque, bright pink sports car…

Sony’s latest desktop PC the Vaio J Series looks set to be a serious contender for the equally stylish iMac.

Powered by an Intel Core i3 processor, the Vaio J Series packs a high definition touchscreen so you can edit Word documents Tom Cruise-Mission Impossible-style.

You also get a Webcam, face-tracking technology (did we mention Mission Impossible?) and built-in microphone for easy video chatting.

The slimline PC packs a sizey 21.5 inch screen with full 1920 x 1080 resolution.

Along with 500GB of storage, Windows 7 Home Premium and Nvidia GeForce graphics, the JSeries seems to have all entertainment channels covered.

“The Vaio J Series delivers an uncompromised HD entertainment experience in a beautiful, integrated design with no unsightly cables,” says Sony.

Sony has included a “smart” media player which organises photos, videos and music which you can play around with on the touchscreen through flick, drag and rotate gestures.

Media Gallery will even learn from your preferences, and will recommend new content based on your previous habits.

The PC has a unique ‘loop’ design so you can stow away your keyboard under the screen while you’re watching movies or chilling out with some music.

To make this new device dead easy to use, Sony has included three buttons so you can easily access your Media Gallery, access Vaio Care assistance or switch off the display without putting the PC into hibernation.

There’s no word on pricing in the UK yet, but we can expect to see this stylish device on the High Street next month.

Do you prefer touchscreen over keyboard? Leave us a comment and let us know.

If you fired up your iMac or Macbook this morning then you will have been prompted to download Apple’s latest build of their Safari web browser.  The new Safari web browser has gained some interesting features so let’s take a look at them below…

Safari Reader is probably the best innovation; removing all ads and other visual distractions from online articles, so you get the whole story and nothing but the whole story.

It works very well and when you browse the web you will notice a reader button in the smart address bar . Once you have pressed it,  you will then be greeted with a virtual piece of paper, clutter free, and really easy to read. Controls on the bottom will allow users to change text size, email it, print it, zoom it or just marvel at how good it looks.

They’re touting even greater HTML5 support and Safari will now work with over a dozen new HTLM 5 features.  This will allow devs to create interactive content and media experience that works right in the browser – without the need for third party plug-ins.

We tested the new Safari on our Quad-core i7 and the new JavaScript engine has seen noticeable speed increases in which Apple reckon is 30 per cent faster than Safari 4.

Last but not least, DNS prefetching behind the scenes allows Domain Name System prefetching – which will see Safari find addresses on webpages to enable faster loading and faster browsing.

Have you tries the new Safari ? What do you think ? Is it the best browser in the world ?

Safari is available for free on Mac OS and Windows and is available now via the Apple.

The HTC EVO 4G has managed to beat the largest one-day sales for Sprint and has surpassed a record that was previously held both by the Samsung Instinct and the Palm Pre.

The record sales for the EVO has led to shortages across America with many of the top retailer stating that they have sold out including Best Buy, Radio Shack and Spring stores.

The Evo 4G, which happens to be HTC’s flagship Android handset, is the world’s first 4G phone – able to work on WiMax networks. Of course, it is 3G capable as well. It is a feature packed phone complete with a 4.3-inch LCD screen, HDMI port, an 8-megapixel camera and Android 2.1.

It has been suggested that HTC aren’t going to be able to keep up with demand, and with release of Apple’s new phone the iPhone 4 just weeks away some have suggested that consumers may pick up Apple’s new handset instead.

Sprint is working with HTC “around the clock to increase inventory in all sales channels”, but HTC have often struggled to keep up with demand on previous smartphone launches.

Will the iPhone 4 sale figures topple that of the HTC Evo 4G? We have an inkling it would. Let’s wait and watch.

Have you managed to grab a HTC EVO 4G? Let us know what you think of the new HTC EVO…

With a release date set for June 21st for the new Apple operating system, the iOS 4, what features will it include?

Well it is expected to include over 100 new features. Most of these can already be found on your standard iPhone, however there are some which are worthy of a shout out.

    Multi-tasking

We already talked about multitasking in our previous iPhone 4 article. Multitasking on the iPhone 4 will work by tapping the home button a few times (as demoed by Mr Jobs). A dock shows up which allows you to scroll through applications, switch and also continue where you left off. Now Steve did discuss that although this has been done on other competitor’s smartphones, it has taken them longer because they wanted to get it right first time. Well, Mr Jobs we’ll have to compare and see about that!

    iBooks

Another interesting feature which Apple will be including in their new OS is iBooks for the iPhone. iBooks is capable of syncing with your iPad which will allow you to buy books, annotations and bookmarks. With the iPhone 4’s high resolution screen it will definitely making reading crystal clear. Native support for PDFs will be handy as well. Good news also for all your iPad books as they will work on the iPhone 4 as well. No separate download or separate book.

    Folders

On my current iPhone I often find it difficult to find my vast array apps installed on it. Folders is a welcome addition as it will allow you to drag application icons on the screen folders so I can have one for Games, Work etc…

There are a whole load of other features which will be included in the new iOS, including an improved email system and much more…

We saw the hugely anticipated tech event of the year, the WWDC kick off yesterday. We were hot on our trails to give you latest news on the iPhone 4 as it was discussed at the keynote event.

Apple also announced that the iPhone OS 4 would receive a new name of just iOS 4 and will be released on June 21st, just before the official release date of the iPhone 4 of June 24th.

On June 21st you will be able to connect your phone to iTunes, download the latest operating system and will be available for the iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch. Steven Jobs did make it clear that the iPhone 3G would not be able to support all the features.

Watch out for our next post as we discuss features…

So we’ve talked design, screen display and camera. Next up is some of the things which are important and worth a mention too…

The iPhone 4 runs with the same A4 processor as the iPad and claims that there will be a 40% improvement in the battery life due to efficiency of the A4 processor. To give you some facts it is expected to have 7h 3G talk, 6h 3G browsing, 10h Wi-Fi, 10h video, 300h standby, which certainly an improvement.

Multitasking seems to work like a dream with the improvement in the processor. Steve Jobs demoed how you can make a phone call, check your emails, browse the internet and run third party apps without slowing the battery or draining the battery unnecessarily.  We’ll have to test this ourselves though to believe it.

Another thing is the Netflix app. Now if you have an iPad then you will know what we are talking about. Netflix iPhone app, will let you stream movies from a Netflix account to Apple’s smartphone the same way it already streams to computers, television sets, iPads and supported smartphones, without losing your place if you switch screens. This time, you’ll be able to watch over the iPhone’s wireless 3G connection in addition to Wi-Fi, and movies have the potential to look particularly good on the new 4G iPhone’s higher-resolution display. However, a word of caution as this could take a big bite out of people month 3G data allowance especially if you are on a capped data plan.

The iPhone 4 accelerometer set up is also worthy a mention especially for all your gaming fanatics. The 3-axis gyroscope is perfect for gaming and could be even as good to take on some of the popular gaming consoles on the market.
